Power supply and distribution issues

  • Is the intent to build a plant to supply just Eastalco with power, or to sell to outside markets?
  • Our intent is to supply reliable power at a competitive price. We will most likely generate power to sell to outside markets, along with being able to serve the needs of the Eastalco site. This power is likely to get used in the MidAtlantic and PJM market areas.

  • Why would you overbuild for more than Eastalco's needs?
  • Besides giving Eastalco with the chance to buy power from the plant, Sempra Generation will need to evaluate how to best produce power at a competitive market price. Generation will configure the plant to provide economic and reliable power for Eastalco and the region.

  • Which direction will power go from the substation?

Load-flow studies have been done by the PJM (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland) Independent System Operator (ISO). The ISO has found system elements required to make the most of power delivery to the region. Maryland is a net importer of power and relies heavily on transmissions to meet its own needs. An in-state source of new power is vital. Please see the impact study.
