Other general questions

  • What are Sempra Energy's environmental noncompliance numbers?

Sempra Generation and its sister companies have a first-rate environmental compliance record.

  • Has Sempra Generation thought about renewable or alternative "green" technologies for the Catoctin Power site?
Sempra Generation has evaluated renewable-generation resources, including wind, landfill gas and fuel cell technology at a number of sites in the United States, including the PJM (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland) grid. Generation is a part owner of a solar photovoltaic site at one of its plants in the Western United States and pursues alternative and renewable technologies whenever they are technically and economically feasible.

In the case of the Catoctin Power site, Generation didn't pursue these technologies, because we have found that renewable technologies are most often not economical without subsidies or special tax considerations. They also entail major technical and commercial development risks.

  • How will you communicate with the community?
To date, we have communicated with the community at open house events held in July 2001, January 2002 and in 2004.We have also developed this Web site as a tool to not only update the community on this project, but to provide you a way to send us your questions and concerns directly. We have also promised to hold future open house events to share the results of the feasibility study with Eastalco. We welcome your comments and feedback.
