About Catoctin Power

Sempra Generation is pleased to be a part of the power-generation project at the Eastalco Aluminum Co. site in Frederick County, Md. This project is called Catoctin Power LLC.

Sempra Generation and Eastalco Works have the permits needed to construct a $300 million, 600 MW electrical generating facility in Frederick County, Md., that will be one of the cleanest and most efficient power plants in the nation. This plant will get built on a portion of an industrial-zoned property that has served as the home of the Alcoa Eastalco Works aluminum smelting site since 1970.

The power plant will use clean-burning natural gas as its fuel and will feature the latest in air-emissions-reduction technologies. It will generate enough power for about 300,000 homes. The electricity will be sold to Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey energy users, including utilities, and large industrial and commercial firms. Eastalco Works could use more than half of the power generated by the plant.
